The Mysterious Benedict Society, Trenton Lee Stewart, 485 pages, December 5, 2010

I just finished reading the 485 paged book The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart on December 5, 2010.  It's about a group of gifted children who are taken to Mr. Benedict to go on a very important mission-they were to stop Mr. Ladroptha Curtain from taking over the world.  But with each question come an answer.  So obviously these children will defeat Mr. Curtain.  Or will they?
I liked this book because every one of their problems, no matter how intriguing, just got better and better.  For example, when Reynie was looking in at the Recruiters through a window (which is a very dangerous task) he was spotted and had to get away.
I would recommend this book to kids ages 7 to adult.

Maggie Bean Stays Afloat, Tricia Rayburn, 316 pages, December 2, 2010

I just finished reading Maggie Bean Stays Afloat by Tricia Rayburn.  It has 316 pages in it and I finished it on December 2, 2010.  It is the follow up of the Melting of Maggie Bean.  Maggie has decided to swear off boys for the summer after Peter rejected her.  But when she gets a job at Camp Sound View and meets Ben, everything changes.  She starts ignoring her old friends and skipping Patrol This meetings.  Maggie's friend Aimee has even stopped talking to her.  On top of that, the Beans are having trouble finding a reasonably priced house.  Will Maggie be able to pull everything together?
I liked this book because it was very girly and sweet.  For example almost the entire book was about boys which is very girly.
I would recommend this book to tweens and teenage girls.

I just read Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins.  I finished it in September of 2010 and it has 390 pages.  It is the third and final book of the Hunger Games.  After the Quarter Quell and after District 12 gets destroyed, Katniss Everdeen, a victor in the Hunger Games, gets shipped off to District 13 which had just recently been discovered.  Now the districts are at war with the capitol.  Will Katniss get revenge of President Snow?  And will her love and best friend Peeta ever be the same?
I think the author wrote this book and this series because she wanted to show kids how you can't give up.  It gets boring for a really long chunk of time sometimes, but once it gets exciting, it's really exciting and suspenseful.  For example, when Katniss and her friends were running through the underground tunnel, it was just telling about how they found their hiding spot.  But eventually, some mutations started calling Katniss's name and you wondered how she was gonna get out.
I would recommend this book to 9 year olds and up and anyone who has a lot of time...because you won't be putting this book down!

I just read the second book in the Red Rock Mysteries called Stolen Secrets by Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry.  It has 202 pages in it and I finished it in October of 2010.  It is about Bryce and Ashley as they try to uncover a mystery about two girls.  They say that they were attacked, but is this man that "attacked" them innocent?
I think the author wrote this book because she wanted to show the readers the consequences of lying.  For example, when the two girls lyed they had to go to the detention center.
I would recommend this book to anybody who loved mysteries.

I just finished reading the third book in the Red Rock Mysteries called Missing Pieces.  It's written by Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry.  It has 206 pages in it and I finished it in October of 2010.  It has three different stories going on.  One is about a bunch of teenagers bashing mailboxes and Bryce is trying to catch the thief...but the worst part is, he thinks it's his sister's boyfriend!  The other story is about Ashley.  She has seizures and her doctors keep having to switch her medicine.  Ashley doesn't know if she'll ever not have seizures.  The last one is about the Lunch Lady.  The fireman said that her daughter was killed in a fire.  But Mrs. Garcia, the Lunch Lady, thinks someone stole her baby! And Ashley is determined to find out what story is true.
I think the authors wrote this book because they wanted to teach kids to never give up.  For example, Bryce didn't give up on the idea the his sister's boyfriend is the thief even though people were telling him it wasn't true.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has trouble believing someone.

I just finished reading the 148 paged book A Long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck on October 13, 2010.  It is about two siblings named Joey and Mary Alice who visit their Grandma each summer and their adventures with her.
I think the author wrote this book because he wanted to make kids laugh and have a lot of fun writing.  For example, it was really funny when Grandma went fishing illegally.
I would recommend this book to anybody.

Captain Underpants, Dav Pilkey, 40 pages, September 2010

I just read Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey.  It has more than 40 pages, but there are so many pictures and the words are so big, that I didn't count all of them.  I finished it in September of 2010.  It is about two boys named George and Harold who create a comic book character named Captain Underpants.  Then they buy this hypnosis ring and trick their principal into thinking he's Captain Underpants.  But now he thinks he's a real super-hero! and the boys have to stop him.
I thing Dav wrote this book to make people laugh.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is feeling sad and needs a good laugh.

Haunted Waters, Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry, 198 pages, Sept. 2010

I just read Haunted Waters by Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry.  It has 198 pages in it and I finished it in September of 2010.  It is the first book in the Red Rock Series.  It is about twins named Bryce and Ashley Timberline.  Their dad dies and their mom remarried a man named Sam.  Sam adopted Ashley and Bryce.  He has a daughter named Leigh.  Sam's wife died in the same plane crash as Ashley and Bryce's dad.  Sam takes Ashley, Bryce, and their little brother Dylan to a cabin in the mountains to see a gold nugget.  But it turns out that it is fake!  Then a mysterious man shows up at the cabin, robs it, and chases the Timberlines in a car.  Will they survive?
I think the author wrote this Christian book to show kids how to be brave and talk to God in serious situations.
I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a little help in their relationship with Christ.

Dooley and the Snortsnoot Jack Kent, 27 pages, Sept. 13, 2010

    I just read Dooley and the Snortsnoot.  It is by Jack Kent and the book is 27 pages long.  I finished it on Sept. 13, 2010.  It is about a boy giant who wants to be big like his father and mother.  When Dooley goes to town to try and scare people, he ends up saving a friend and growing big.
       I think that the author wrote this book because he wants to teach kids how to be brave and stand up for yourself, even if it has consequences.  For example, Dooley saved Trina, even though he knew the consequence was getting hurt.  But instead, Dooley grew into a big giant.  I think the point of being a giant is not how big you are in size but in courage.
       I like this book because it is funny and charming.  I would recommend this book to little kids because I think the younger you are, the more you think is funny.  If sixth graders thought this book was funny, then kindergartners would really get a laugh!
